The 20th Century was about dozens of markets and millions of consumers; everything was mass produced, cookie cutter and it was all about quantity. The 21st Century is about millions of markets while only dozens of consumers. It’s a dog eat dog world out there and to stand out of the crowd you have to be different and cater to your client’s specific needs. In a world where everything is at the consumers disposal there is no more room for reduplication, we are going into an era of personalization from clothing, to services, to even paint and doggie treats. This world is full of competitive products and services and to be leading-edge we must be unique through innovation.
Word of mouth marketing (WOMM) was pre-social media, pre-emails and pre-computers. WOMM is still very much utilized not by purpose but by every day conversations based on trust and relationships. Today, it’s not only word of mouth but it’s word of click. Imagine back in the day when you dialed 6 of your closest friends on the rotary phone (and it was always the last number you screwed up on) to complain about the horrible service you received. Welcome to the social media revolution where ‘WORD OF CLICK’ is where it’s at. People have it so much easier now by just one status update or tweet that is sent to hundreds, if not thousands or even millions of people, letting everyone know about the poor service they got at said restaurant or store. Not to mention the power of a blogs these days.
Competition is high, distinction and service is at it's finest but credibility is gold. It's very easy for people to say they have and can but it’s another when people can truly vouch for you. A well written and truthful resume along with a kick ass on-line blueprint is extremely important but testimonials and references add that much more value to your validity. Nothing beats testimonials from businesses and people that are satisfied with the service or product that you have provided them or for how you have inspired others. Do your due diligence on people and companies before you work with them and always, always sign a contract.
